Luba Arnold Larnie
I am a contemporary landscape artist, based in Gloucestershire, UK.
My paintings are not intended to be literal representations of specific places, but rather an attempt to capture the essence of memory - a space imbued with its light and atmosphere - leaving room for personal interpretation and connection.
Long walks in the countryside have provided inspiration for a number of my landscape paintings. I’m equally inspired by the sea, and regular visits to Cornwall have played a pivotal role in shaping many of my seascapes.
Texture and colour are at the heart of my painting process. I work with acrylic, oil and charcoal, building my paintings through numerous layers - often using a palette knife to create marks that attempt to evoke the rawness and rhythm of nature.
My approach combines painting from memory, sketches, photographs and, of course, on location work. My technique is energetic and intuitive. This often produces a spontaneous reaction - or an impression of spontaneity.
I have been passionate about painting and drawing from a young age and this has continued throughout my life. After obtaining a master’s degree in History and Art History, I spent several years working for a theatrical company. However, the majority of my professional career was spent as a school teacher.
For the past eight years, I have been a full-time artist. I have however been exhibiting my work for over fifteen years at numerous exhibitions mainly in the Midlands and West of England. I’m delighted that in more recent years my paintings have appeared at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists ( RBSA ) and the prestigious Penwith Gallery, St. Ives, Cornwall.
I’m pleased that my paintings are hanging on walls in the Netherlands , Spain, Italy, Switzerland and USA as well as the UK.
I’m happy to undertake commissions and would be delighted to discuss your requirements with you.
If you require any further information regarding my paintings, please send me a message using the contact page of this website.
Thanks for your interest in my work.
